‘Tis the season for social media managers for brands and businesses to scramble while compiling a cogent plan for the holiday season. There’s a lot of nuance that goes into posting on social media during the holidays and lucky for you, we wrote a fairly extensive blog about it that has all the answers you need here. That’s not all and such is the extent of our wanton generosity (and some might say masochism) that we’ve also compiled a full December calendar of social media holidays and observances for businesses to use when creating their content calendar.
Buckle up because we’ve not only provided you with an extensive list of December social media holidays for brands and businesses, we’ve also done the research and included pertinent links and hashtags for each observance. It’s the gift that keeps on giving long after your author collapses in a heap while rueing the day he thought it would be a great idea to put these blogs together by hand many months ago. Enough with the self-pity because there’s no National What Was I Thinking Day in December–just a veritable smorgasbord of great days for businesses to observe on social media!
Monthly Social Media Observances in December
Holiday Season
The holiday season fundamentally begins right after Thanksgiving so you should have your holiday-themed promotions ready to go in early December. Start sharing discounts, promote some of your most popular items that would work well as gifts, and consider changing the design of your creative to reflect something a bit more festive. At Nuera Marketing, we always make it a point to change the profile and cover photos for our clients so that they’re holiday-themed. These little touches go a long way to generating the kind of brand affinity that businesses are after during the holiday season. #HappyHolidays
Month of Giving
This month was created to encourage people to give back to people who are less fortunate or causes that help those in need. As a brand, you’ll want to share photos/videos of your team giving back to engender community goodwill but be sure that the focal point of your post is encouraging others to contribute as well. It’s great that you’re giving back but your social post should not be a pat on the back, it should be a call to action to others. #MonthOfGiving
National Write a Business Plan Month
As the last month of the year, December represents the last opportunity to truly get a head start on the new year. Writing a business plan is an accomplishment in and of itself so if you provide financial, legal, or B2B services then this month is for you. Use the context this month provides to explain the benefits of your services while also encouraging entrepreneurs to take the leap of writing a business plan. We’ll be using this day as an opportunity to promote the small business services of clients like Riverplace Capital and we’ll make it a point to congratulate those who wrote a business plan while explaining how Riverplace can help them take the next step. #WriteABusinessPlanMonth
National Volunteers Month
National Volunteers Month represents a great opportunity for brands and businesses to highlight both the causes that are important to them as well as the team themselves. Consider organizing a team volunteering day at an organization that’s important to you and be sure to share the moment on your social media feeds. #NationalVolunteerMonth
National Cat Lovers’ Month
It’s universally known that social media posts featuring pets are, dare we say it, catnip for every audience. If you have an office cat or anyone on your team is especially enamored of their feline friends then consider sharing photos of them on your social media feeds. Remember, it’s never a bad idea to inject a little frivolity and fun into your feed every now and then. #NationalCatLoversMonth
December 2024 Social Media Holidays
DEC 01
Cyber Safety Sunday
People begin doing their holiday shopping in December and this day was created to educate those about potential online shopping scams. Experian has a great article featuring tips on how consumers can protect themselves during the holidays. #CyberSafetySunday
DEC 02
Cyber Monday
A HUGE day for retailers, Cyber Monday is a day you should have been promoting for weeks before the actual day. Consumers expect massive discounts today so really go for broke by offering significant deals across all of your products. You can also consult this handy guide to Cyber Monday promotions from Shopify. #CyberMonday
Bartender Appreciation Day
People are likely going to REALLY appreciate their bartender after a weekend spent buying gifts that people will inevitably return so if you own a bar, use today as a way to show off your bartenders’ personality on social media. It goes without saying that Nuera founding President, Joe Sampson would be apoplectic if you didn’t use the 🍺 emoji because, after all, he IS the self-proclaimed Keeper of The Realm, Lighter of the Flame, and The Once and Future King of Emoji Land (big ups to anyone who read all of these entries and noticed that he gets another name in each one). #BartenderAppreciationDay
DEC 03
Giving Tuesday
This day traditionally falls after Thanksgiving so that people can continue to spread goodwill by giving back to their communities. This represents another opportunity to involve your team with an organization in your community and then share how other people can help on social media. #GivingTuesday
DEC 04
International Day of Banks
If you run social media at a bank then today is your day to go full George Bailey to remove any preconceived notions about Mr. Potter-style banking. Share tips, deals, and stories about the people on your team that are on the front lines of your bank! #InternationalDayofBanks
Extraordinary Work Team Recognition Day
The team is the backbone of any business and today is a day to recognize and champion your entire team for some of the amazing things they’ve done throughout the year. This is a great opportunity to celebrate some of the unsung heroes at your business and to express a collaborative spirit that helps make your business thrive! #TeamRecognitionDay
DEC 05
National Blue Jeans Day
Today is the day you dive into the denim-themed posts and promote your best jeans. Your author is partial to the Levis classic 501 skinny jeans which probably stopped fitting like three years ago. Either way, consider offering discounts on your jeans or even just have everyone on your team wear jeans that day and post a photo on social media. Casual Thursdays forever! #NationalBlueJeansDay
DEC 06
National Gazpacho Day
Did I know what gazpacho was before I wrote this? No. Does this make me a little embarrassed? You bet! This admittedly means very little considering I have the palate of a toddler so if you have gazpacho on your menu, consider offering it for free today with an order over a certain amount. You could also consider offering a great gazpacho recipe like this one from Love & Lemons. #NationalGazpachoDay
DEC 07
First Day of Hannukah
Celebrate the festival of lights by potentially offering discounts for all eight days of Hannukah! #Hannukah
DEC 08
National Salesperson Day
Members of your sales team are the people most often speaking with clients and customers so they’re instantly associated with your brand. Businesses can feature them on this day with some humanizing content about their personality to let people in past the pitch. Salespeople also deserve some recognition during what will inevitably be a very busy month! #NationalSalespersonDay
National Brownie Day
People are going to be baking up a storm during the holidays and save for those poor souls who are allergic to chocolate, pretty much everyone loves brownies. Consider offering discounts on the brownies on your menu, having an office brownie bake-off, or sharing a recipe like this one from Baker By Nature. #NationalBrownieDay
DEC 09
Christmas Card Day
Consider using this day to have your creative director design some sort of digital Christmas card that you can use to feature employees and celebrate their accomplishments throughout the year. Even better if the creative director can indulge his inner Ben Bradlee and edit it so you can use it throughout the month and celebrate many employees for the holidays! #ChristmasCardDay
DEC 10
National Lager Day
By this point in the month, your bartender should be feeling pretty good after Bartender Appreciation Day. He’ll feel even better when you offer discounts on lager for this day and watch the customers pour in! #NationalLagerDay
DEC 11
National App Day
If you’re particularly proud of the technology in your app then today is the day to show it off on social media. You can offer discounts, take people behind the scenes of the build, and highlight the most popular features! #NationalAppDay
DEC 12
Green Monday
You would think that this day would be dedicated to the environment but it’s actually a day to remind people to knock out some of their last-minute Christmas shopping before stores become total madhouses. Businesses can treat this day like another Cyber Monday or Black Friday and they’ll have an advantage because many other businesses won’t even know this day exists. #GreenMonday

Another day for the chocaholics! Your social media pages should be awash in delicious chocolate today and consider offering discounts and free samples! #ChocolateCovered
DEC 17
National Device Appreciation Day
This day was started to show appreciation for the devices that make our lives easier. The word “device” can be pretty broad here so if you offer something tangible that can improve people’s lives, you should use today to both talk about it on social media and to share customer testimonials. #NationalDeviceAppreciationDay
DEC 18
Bake Cookies Day
One thing businesses can do today is to have their employees bake cookies, bring them to the office, and then have a competition for the best cookie. It’s a great way to get the team together before the holidays and it will display unification (and deliciousness) when you post about it on social media. Be sure to include recipes like this one for the winning cookie! #BakeCookiesDay
DEC 19
National Hard Candy Day
This is undoubtedly a big day for grandparents as their penchant for distributing hard candies to young people is finally celebrated! If you sell hard candy then consider offering discounts today because these delicious desserts make great stocking stuffers! #HardCandyDay
DEC 20
Games Day
Whether you like your games of the video or board persuasion, this day is for you! Christmas is only five days away and this day offers businesses a great sense of context to offer discounts on any and all kinds of games! #GamesDay
DEC 21
Winter Solstice/First Day of Winter
Seasons change and so should your social media content design. For clients like Ocean State Heating & Air, we use this day to pivot our messaging, strategy, and design to account for winter’s arrival. If you sell anything that functions best in the winter then be sure to acknowledge this day. Example: “The first day of winter is here and we have new winter coats available!” #FirstDayofWinter
DEC 22
National Cookie Exchange Day
Use today to celebrate the culture of your office by posting about a cookie exchange for your team while also wishing everyone happy holidays! #HappyHolidays
DEC 23
Festivus
With every brand and their mother inevitably posting about Christmas this week, you can have a little fun and preempt those posts with something about the Seinfeld holiday called Festivus. Whether it’s a “feats of strength” that takes place at the workplace or a decorated Festivus Pole (it’s a thing)–your post will definitely stand out! If you don’t know what Festivus is then say “serenity now” and click this link. #Festivus
DEC 24
Christmas Eve
Be sure to let your customers know your hours if you are open today and they want to do a little last-minute shopping. You can also post your Merry Christmas post today to get a head start on everyone else! #ChristmasEve
DEC 25
Christmas
Simple is always best here. Wish people a #MerryChristmas in a short, succinct post that captures the spirit of the day! Be sure to toss in one of these emojis 🎄 because it will make Joe happy and it just makes sense. #MerryChristmas
DEC 26
Kwanzaa
Today marks the first day of Kwanzaa and should be used on social media to celebrate African American families and communities! Here’s a great list of ideas on how to celebrate Kwanzaa on social media from Pony Express. #Kwanzaa

DEC 29
Still Need To Do Day
There are inevitably things that people need to do by the end of the year and we would cite examples but we are now in a cold panic thinking about what we will almost certainly forget. Use this opportunity as a reminder to people if there’s something they need to do that’s germane to your business and let them know you can help before it’s too late. #StillNeedToDoDay
DEC 30
National Bacon Day
I assume that there’s a secret bacon conglomerate out there that has done an absolutely phenomenal job branding bacon as the best breakfast food because people cannot get enough of it. There’s an entire culture built around bacon so this is one of those rare opportunities where sharing memes like this would actually be appropriate because it’s such a silly yet zealous concept! #NationalBaconDay
DEC 31
New Year’s Eve
Wish everyone an amazing and safe New Year’s Eve, consider doing a recap of the past year, and be sure to share your hours. It’s important to project gratitude to your audience and then end your post with something they can look forward to in 2025! That was definitely a long December and hopefully, this coming year will be better than the last. Thanks for reading! #NewYearsEve
